This level of expertise is present at each stage of the creative process behind each item of Loewe.
Looking tell the story of the craft tradition of Loewe from a different perspective and innovative, the company invited the art director and illustrator Robert Clarke to work in the book Masters of Leather. Clarke spent time in Madrid visiting the city, visiting the shops of the company, visiting the workshops and meeting with Loewe and watching artisans at work before heading to Barcelona to learn how to work the skin in the tannery. So, could be witnessed every stage of manufacture of leather goods from Loewe, molded and assembled by craftsmen.
To underline the importance that work plays in the quality craftsmanship of Loewe leather goods, Clarke has drawn and illustrated the entire book by hand. The volume gives an account of his experience with the firm in words and pictures, and even plays the fingerprints of some of its artisans. Therefore, Masters of Leather is an example of love of art and craft excellence to the same extent that the articles of Loewe. "I like the feel and appearance of the book as much as I like Loewe handbags," says Clarke. "The colors and style reflected the quintessentially Spanish, in fact, I was inspired to make Miro, Picasso and colors that are identified with Spain, and also a nod to Tapies".
