Chanel Expands in Barcelona
Fashion 21/03/2010
The French film Chanel plans to expand its Barcelona location. The store, situated at number 70 on the luxurious Passeig de Gràcia, has jumped on the opportunity to rent the adjoining property, left vacant when the neighbouring Armani location (situated in numbers 68-72) closed on December 24, thus creating a store with 245 square metres on street level and 310 square metres of basement space.
The commercial locations are situated in the Hotel Majestic building and belong to the hotel owners, members of the Soldevila family.
The current Chanel establishment boasts 112 square metres, plus 186 square metres of basement space, while the incoming Armani locale features 133 square metres of floor space and a 124 square metre basement.
According to Expansión, the firm owned by Italian designer Giorgio Armani is currently submerged in a process of relocating several of its Spanish locations, while busy purchasing a number of its own stores. Eleven of its locations belonged, up until now, to business person Amalia Zunzunegui.
The closing of Armani's Passeig de Gràcia location corresponds to the firm's desire to find a larger establishment. The company, founded in 1975 by Giorgio Armani and Sergio Galeotti, closed 2008 with a total sales of €1,620.30 million, 1.5% more than in the previous year.
