Fellini's Imaginarium
Art 19/04/2010
Until June 13, CaixaForum will host an exhibition on Italian film-director Federico Fellini, whereby more than four-hundred pieces attempt to uncover the creative mechanisms behind Fellini's legend. It constitutes a journey through 20th century images that depict the imaginarium and the singular world of one of modern cinema's most important artists.
Four large areas split the exhibition into themes: "Popular Culture", which groups together some of the director's obsessions, "Fellini in Action", which encompasses script composition and his tendency to dub films, "The City of Women", which analyses the role of women in his work and "Biographical Invention", thereby discussing his memories and dreams.
The exhibit, organised and produced in collaboration with NBC Photographie and commissioned by Sam Stourdzé, includes photos, drawings, magazines, comics, posters and fragments from interviews and films, often previously un-seen material. By exploring Fellini's universe, we take a look at his singular world, both private and personal, of lyric and poetic visual images. His work alters the rules of narration, constructs the story and conceives cinema in a manner that runs against the norm: imagination above all else.
In addition to the exhibition, the centre has also scheduled conferences, seminars and film showings on the Italian director. It also possesses material that patrons can consult in the moment or take home on loan. An exhibition dedicated to all fans of Fellini and his world, and all those who want to grasp a more in-depth understanding of the Rimini genius.
