Mika Will Revolutionise the Palau Sant Jordi
Music 06/04/2010
Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr., better known by his stage name Mika, will present his second studio album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, in concert this April 18, 2010, in Barcelona's Palau Sant Jordi.
With his latest work The Boy Who Knew Too Much, an album that includes tracks which hearken to 1940s Disney and comprise a modern review of 80s power-pop, Mika has proven that he is willing to bring glam sparkle and camp irony back to British pop music. With a disco sound, his music balances atop an open feeling of acceptance for what it means to live in the 21st century, and all its inherent complications and problems.
This singer, composer, pianist and keyboardist of Lebanese and English descent is a great admirer of Queen, Prince and Elton John, with a little Wham! thrown in for good measure. Yet he also adores Rufus Wainwright and Beck. An incredible voice, he is capable of matching falsettos that would make the Scissor Sisters and Bee Gees proud.
After recording his first EP Dodgy Holiday EP in 2006, he launched his first studio album Life in Cartoon Motion in 2007, thus becoming the year's biggest discovery. This album afforded him a great deal of applause from the indie community and sales akin to more mainstream artists. Two years hence, he launched his second EP Songs for Sorrow, a limited edition record that is currently sold-out. And finally, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, released in September 2009.
Over the course of his brief musical career, he has received a number of awards, including the BBC's "Sound of 2007" Award, three World Music Awards, a Brit Award and an Ivor Novello Award.
Besides promoting his latest album with songs like "Rain" or "Blame It on the Girls", he will also perform some of his greatest hits, such as "Grace Kelly" or "Relax, Take It Easy".
